About our school

Nándor Handler Vocational / Technical School

The Nándor Handler Vocational / Technical School as a member of the Vocational Centre of Sopron, is a dominant institution in the Sopron region. Besides being one of Sopron's most populous educational institutions, our school also has a rich historical heritage: in 2014 it celebrated the 130th anniversary of its formation. The school's name choice also refers to its rich history: Nándor Handler was a remarkable 19th-century architect, who - besides many excellent buildings (churches and palaces) - designed the old wing of our school building, too. As a vocational / technical secondary school, our institute offers full-time training in several fields of the building trade, timber industry, light industry, informatics, beauty industry and arts. We conduct training in the following trades:

Vocational training (a 3-year training program without a school-leaving exam):

  • joiner
  • carpenter
  • internal decorator
  • builder and tiler
  • dress-maker

Technical trainings (a 4+1 year training program with a school-leaving exam at the end of the 4th year):

  • ornamental painter
  • graphic designer
  • IT administrator
  • timber industry technician
  • hairdresser
  • beautician

From this school year on - in cooperation with the Vocational Centre of Sopron - we are also launching different courses in adult education.

Our institution provides ideal circumstances for vocational / technical training, since - besides our main building for theoretical education - we have a well-equipped, modern apprentice shop as well, where manual training can take place. The main aim of our school is - following its traditions - to promote the economy of Sopron and its region and supply the industrial sector with well-qualified professionals. We are obliged to pursue this goal not only by our past achievement but our current successes as well: our school has recently won a national Award for the Quality of Education and our students regularly achieve excellent results on national vocational competitions.
